Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information eeg.org.uk collects and the rights you have over it.

Who we are

This website, https://www.eeg.org.uk (the “site”), is run by the owner of eeg.org.uk, who is the data controller for the personal information described here. You can reach us through our contact page.

We handle personal information in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Information we collect

When you contact us

If you use our contact form, we receive your name and email address, along with your message. We use this only to reply to you and to deal with your enquiry. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in responding to people who get in touch. We keep these messages for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, and no longer than two years.

Server and security logs

Like almost every website, our hosting provider automatically records technical information when you visit, such as your IP address and the pages you request. This is used to keep the site secure and fix problems. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website. Logs are kept for a limited period and then deleted.

Analytics and advertising

We do not currently use analytics tracking or advertising networks on this site. We use Google Search Console to see how the site appears in Google search results. It reports totals, not information about individual visitors, and does not place cookies on your device.

Cookies

Our site itself uses only a small number of cookies that are needed for it to work, for example to remember settings or protect forms from spam. These do not track you across other websites.

Some third-party content can set its own cookies:

  • Embedded videos. Some pages include YouTube videos. YouTube may set cookies when the video loads or when you play it. See Google’s privacy policy for details.
  • Affiliate links. When you click an affiliate link, for example to the Muse store or Amazon, that retailer or its affiliate network sets a cookie on its own website. This lets it credit us with a commission if you buy. These cookies are set by the retailer, not by eeg.org.uk, and are covered by the retailer’s privacy policy. See our affiliate disclosure for more on how these links work.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking cookies set by affiliate partners does not stop links working, but it may stop us earning a commission.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the site, such as our web hosting and email providers, under terms that require them to protect it. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Some of these providers may store data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • ask us to correct information that is wrong
  • ask us to delete your information
  • object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it
  • ask for your information in a portable format

To use any of these rights, contact us through the contact page. We will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Children

This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Links to other websites

Our pages link to other websites, including retailers and research journals. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their own policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy, for example if we add new features or services to the site. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
